We do not even realize how much time is invested on mobile phones everyday. The last time I left my phone back home, I felt a bit lost and disconnected! Having said that, companies often wonder why mobile websites do not perform equivalent to desktop websites?
With CanvasFlip we have analysed so many such websites, their performance on desktop and on mobile phone. There are majorly four factors which when checked definitely boosts the performance of websites over the mobile phone.
- Shorter scrolls and dedicated CTAs
There is a big difference between mobile and desktop websites in the way user scrolls through them. The screen of the mobile phone is very small compared to the desktop and hence more scrolling for the user. Users like it when they do not have to scroll down for a long time.
Also a single dedicated call to action has a greater impact on the user. Multiple call to action like “Buy now”, “Call us”, “Download” tend to divert the user from the ultimate call to action.
- Content prioritization
What usually looks apt for the desktop screen looks quite congested for the mobile website. The obvious reason being the space. A good idea is to replace as much content possible with illustrations and images. Mobile site designs should give priority to the features and content users are most likely to need when viewing a site using a mobile device.
- Have a unique photo shoot for mobile website
The marketing head of Raymond predicted this trend long ago when they started having close up photo shoots for their apparels. A closer look of the material gives the sense of confidence to the customer.
A wide space image is good for the the desktop but a mobile demand a zoom in image. A detailed image on the mobile is powerful enough to attract users.
- Pages do not load fast enough
Mobile pages take longer to load than desktop. Check the chart below-
So for mobile sites you should aim for no more than 6 seconds page load time. Check for Java script errors, particularly on important site pages. And make sure that your page is not being let down by a single weak element such as a slow-loading video.
